Build a Lasting Gift for the Place You Love
Legacy Giving
Through a legacy gift (also known as a planned gift), you can create lasting support for the community and causes you care about most.
At Spur, we’re here to help you build a legacy that reflects your values and ensures your impact endures for generations.
When you include Spur in your estate plans, you have two flexible options:
Establish a Named Legacy Fund
Create your own personalized fund to support the causes or organizations closest to your heart.
Designate a Bequest to Spur
Choose from one of Spur’s established funds already doing impactful work in the community.
Named Legacy Fund
A Legacy Fund is a simple and powerful way to ensure your charitable giving continues beyond your lifetime. It allows you to direct a future gift to the nonprofits and causes that reflect your values and passions.
Most often, a Legacy Fund is established as a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) that continues to make grants over time—extending your impact into the future. It can be structured as a sunsetting fund, which distributes all assets over a set period, or as an endowed fund, which is designed to last in perpetuity.
If you don’t already have a DAF with Spur, one can be established through your estate that will support the areas of interest or nonprofits that matter to you most.
If you do already have a DAF with Spur, you can arrange for it to convert to a Legacy Fund upon your passing.
In either case, you may choose to:
Appoint loved ones or trusted individuals to recommend future grants, or
Entrust Spur to carry out your philanthropic wishes by making distributions aligned with your stated values and priorities.
How to Set It Up
Complete a Fund Agreement with the Spur Community Foundation to document your wishes.
Work with your legal or financial advisor to include a bequest to your Named Legacy Fund in your will or trust.
You can update your designated nonprofits or areas of interest at any time by revising your agreement with Spur.
There is no cost to set up a Named Legacy Fund.
Make a Bequest to Spur
If you prefer to support the Wood River Valley through one of Spur’s existing funds, you can include Spur Community Foundation in your will as a beneficiary. We can provide sample bequest language to share with your legal or financial advisor to help ensure your gift is directed according to your wishes.
Some Reasons to Consider Spur in your Estate Plans
You want your love of the Wood River Valley to be reflected in your final wishes
You want to ensure that your plans have the flexibility to adapt to the future priorities and realities in your areas of interest, rather than having to commit to specifics now.
You want your legacy to be a sustaining force for the causes you care about
You have assets that you do not intend to pass-down to heirs
You want your estate plans to be tax-wise.
