Board of Directors

Spur’s Board of Directors plays a vital role in setting Spur’s strategic direction, ensuring its sustainability and efficacy, and directing its service to the community in a manner consistent with its bylaws.

  • We have the following expectations of our board members:

    • Participate in board meetings and prioritize attendance

    • Come to meetings prepared having read all background material provided in advance

    • Be informed about the organization’s mission, services, policies, and programs

    • Serve on committees and offer to take on assignments as one’s capacity allows

    • Contribute knowledge and expertise where relevant

    • Make a personal contribution reflecting Spur as a top philanthropic priority

    • Participate in fundraising efforts, including making introductions, stewardship of donors, and soliciting new donors in accordance with fundraising goals and strategies

    • Suggest possible nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and the organization

    • Assist the board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities

    • Represent the organization in a positive and supportive manner

    • Follow conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies

    • Participate in strategic planning retreats, board self-evaluation programs, and board development workshops, seminars, and other educational events that enhance skills as a board member

  • Spur is currently seeking 1-2 new Board members whose attributes and expertise align with current priorities. As of October 2023, those are:

    • Understanding of the circumstances faced by our Valley’s most vulnerable and at-risk populations

    • Marketing and communications

    • Investment and asset management for charitable foundations

People interested in being considered should contact us by emailing askus@spurfoundation.org

Spur initiated the Advisory Board to expand the circle of people guiding our strategic development. Advisors participate in Board meetings in a nonvoting capacity, serve on committees, and attend Spur events according to their interests, provided there is space available.

In addition to intellectual support, Spur asks its Advisors to make an annual contribution to the operating budget. Spur’s business model is based on internal stakeholders, such as our Board Members, Advisors, and grateful donors, funding annual operations so that 100% of other donations can flow out to the community without being assessed administrative fees.

A nomination and approval process involving Spur’s Board of Directors governs the selection of Advisors.

Advisors

  • Spur is currently seeking to augment its advisor ranks with people who have knowledge and experience in the following areas:
