Alison Van Hook

Program Director

Alison brings over 20 years of experience leading and growing nonprofit organizations, with a focus on fundraising, strategy, and building strong community partnerships. Before relocating to Sun Valley, she worked in Los Angeles as an executive director, development director, and strategic planning consultant, including serving as co-executive director of an award-winning program supporting students in under-resourced schools throughout Los Angeles County. In these roles, she helped organizations build long-term sustainability and navigate major transitions.

Since moving to Idaho with her family in 2016, Alison has worked with nonprofits in the Wood River and Treasure Valleys as a consultant and development director. At Spur, she leads grantmaking, advises nonprofit partners, and develops programs that strengthen both nonprofit leadership and the broader philanthropic ecosystem.

She holds a master’s degree in education from Harvard University and a bachelor of arts degree from Tulane University. Alison has also completed advanced training in nonprofit leadership, management, fundraising, and philanthropy through the Annenberg Foundation’s Alchemy+ Nonprofit Leadership Program, the American College of Financial Services’ Charitable Giving Strategies course, the California Center for Nonprofit Management’s Executive Director Bootcamp, the Executive Service Corps’ Developing Development program, and Cause Communications’ Communicating for Results workshops.
